NuqtaARTS is dedicated to providing traditional artistic experiences to people of all ages through classes that mix components of artistic design with math and science. NuqtaARTS’s goal is to help participants learn more about the natural world through the creative process. At present, NuqtaARTS has four courses covering: water marbling, muqarnas, geometric design, and latch hooking. NuqtaARTS is based in the Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia Area. Classes can be arranged anywhere on the East Coast although some travel fees may apply.
NuqtaARTS founder Matthew Brooks believes science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education is of prime importance in reviving American society. NuqtaARTS sits at the intersection of several educational needs in American society and more specifically the American Muslim community. The organization mixes “Art, Math, and Science” and hopes to help young American Muslims strengthen their Islamic identity by practicing traditional Islamic arts that may have been practiced by their ancestors. NuqtaARTS hopes to contribute to an American Muslim art tradition and provide a platform for American Muslims to connect and contribute to American society. It also provides mentoring to youth so that they can eventually lead the art classes themselves.
