This film is a universal story of trying to figure out where one belongs, and loving a part of one’s self despite potential struggles. In Aziza’s case, she’s a music nerd who has a deep and spiritual connection to electronic music. At the same time, Aziza is trying to see if she fits into the scene that creates the music she loves. For Aziza, her mind escapes through music, and music elevates her spirituality. Essentially, Aziza is her own person and has to figure out where she fits in.

This film is a story of loving part of yourself despite the conflict that may arise with family and society’s expectations. In Aziza’s case, she is beginning to recognize that she does not quite fit into the scene that creates the music she loves. For her it isn’t about the clubs or crowds; Aziza is her own person and has to figure out where she fits in through her passion and values. It is necessary for any community to see themselves onscreen. Small Delights shows a true depiction of Muslims that audiences often do not get to see, due to the immense misrepresentation of the community in current media. In addition, it is rare to find a film that features a Muslim woman, especially a Muslim teenage girl, in a fiction film produced in the United States.
